Andover- 1400!
Date: 27/07/2009 20:51

Ive been shooting at Andover for years, and even since a junior recurve I've shot some of my best scores there.

Everything started well for this weekend. EAF had funded a b&b, which meant I was in top condition on Saturday morning.

70m didnt start well, but i picked it up and got a 346 - 2 points down on my national record of 348.

60m was fairly consistant throughout, making a 352 - again, 2 points off my PB. It was a pb long metric though of 698.

50m started off really well with a 117, but the last 2 dozen werent so good. Going into 30m I didnt know what I needed or whether it was still possible. I shot really well, cleaning the 1st dozen, and then being unlucky with a deflection in the 2nd dozen out into the 9. On the last end I was aware of people watching and their reactions to my shots. I dropped a point only about 1cm out of the 10 on the last shot. When I came off the line, everyone told me I had done it - 1400 dead!

Ive worked so hard and its been a goal for a long time. Im really pleased to have finally done it!

Bronte, 3rd leg of the GB Series
Date: 18/07/2009 22:35

Bradford is a long way for us in France....I mean Ipswich (close!). It look about 4&1/2hrs to get there - to arrive to a windy field. The practice field was on the cross wind and I broke a Protour on the Friday on the A-frame of a straw boss :-(

The Saturday was surprisingly calm! I shot 1 point off my national record at 70m - 347, all else was fairly average and I finished on 1390, a 13 point lead. The Sunday though was more of a struggle - it was windy all day. It was mostly from behind which was good, but it was enough to push you around and affect the aiming quite a lot. I felt pretty pleased with a 1373, winning overall. I now have a 5th, 1st and 1st, so I think this means I am locked into the finals in October.

Summer Surprise Tournament 27-28/6/09
Date: 18/07/2009 22:16

I was part of 'Go Go Budgie' - James and Rikki Bingham, Matt Arnold and myself. We all started the 720 well - our first end scored 237/240!! As a team we qualified 1st - giving us a flat 0 for the h2hs. Other teams were given a handicap adjustment. We had a bye 1st round, and then lost the 2nd round by only a couple of points (I think the other team had about 30 points start).

On the Sunday we shot a FITA. It was pretty warm, good weather. I didnt shoot that well considering, putting in 1376. This plus my 720 of 688 on the Sat, put me in 1st overall for the 2nd stage of the GB Series which Im really happy with.

World Champs selection shoot, stage 2
Date: 18/07/2009 22:08

Going into this selection shoot I was sitting 12 points behind Nichola Simpson. 6 of us started on the Saturday - Andrea Gales, Lucy Holderness, Lucy O'Sullivan and Rikki Bingham.

We shot a Fita which was wet and windy. I shot well - 1369. Andrea and Lucy Holderness were cut at this point. I had made a couple points back on Nichola.

On the Sunday we shot a 720 and round robin x 2. I shot ok with a 679. My h2hs went fairly well, winning 4/6. All the scores from this weekend and the 1st weekend were put together. I won overall, Nichola 2nd and Rikki 3rd. We will all go to Korea in September!

Rivernook
Date: 15/06/2009 22:54

Looking forward to a weekend off after all the trips Ive done recently, but saw Rivernook on the calender and managed to enter last minute!

Glad I did - I wanted to complete my last Commonwealth games qualifying scores, and I have done it! I shot 679 on Sat AM ( i little disappointing as the weather was perfect in the 1st half before it got breezy), and a respectable 677 in the breezy PM. This ranked me 2nd and 1st respectively, and overall won the tournament.

On the Sunday I shot well, getting a PB of 692 (2 points short of Lucy Holderness's national record!) ranking me 1st. The head to heads went well, and I made it to the gold match against Rikki. It was awesome - set out like an international with just the 2 targets left on the field, all the matches run individually, runners, agents, commentary, the lot! I shot well 116-100, winning the tournament.

Finals
Date: 15/06/2009 22:49

We shot the 1/4 matches on the Sunday which is really unusual. I had Luzmary Gudez - who beat Nichola to Gold in Boe last year. It was breezy on the field. I shot 29 ends, except a 7 which i lost to the wind unfortunately! 113-116. Luzmary is a quick shooter, she gets on the gold and hits the trigger, which on the day was the best. Luzmary went through to win the Gold, and is now ranked 1st in the world!

I was the highest loser, so I came 5th overall. Im fairly pleased with that. It leaves me in 5th overall in the world cup standings, even though I have only done 2 events, to everyone elses 3! We think we have the money to go to China, fingers crossed!

Eliminations
Date: 05/06/2009 19:15

Practice went pretty good today and I was feeling pretty confident. I had a bye in the first round, and in the 2nd I was against Yadav of India. I didnt shoot great, but won by 3 points. This then put me up against the Russian Anna Kazantseva - a world class archer. Again, I didnt shoot well enough but I won it by a point! All the ladies scores were pretty low on the field. This is as far as we went today - so Ive made the top 8 so far. All the other matches are shot on Sunday, the first ones on the field, and the finals are on the beach.

Simon Terry had a great day, beating the Olympic Champion in the first round and proceded to the top 8 with some awesome passes (including a 117!)

Duncan Busby also shot really well with a 119 in the 2nd round, but unfortunately went out in the 3rd round making the top 16.

Team day tomorrow. Unfortunately we dont have any teams (compounds didnt travel). The recurve men lost out to Italy and the recurve women were beaten by Korea.

Mixed Team
Date: 05/06/2009 19:06

This year FITA have introduced the mixed team. Its a different format because its one male and one female.

Duncan shot great yesterday - 1395 and also finished 5th, so we have made it! Only the top 4 teams compete which is pretty tough!

The finals for this are on Sunday - looking forward to it!

Day off
Date: 04/06/2009 13:47

Today is qualifying for the recurve women and compound men. I got up pretty early and headed down to the practice field so to miss the worst of the heat.

Practice went pretty good - shot some really nice ends including an 80 (all 8 arrows in the 10). It got windy again today.

Tomorrow is a strange format -
AM - Recurve individual
Compound teams
PM - Compound individual
Recurve teams

And they are only going down to the 1/8s. The 1/4s, semi's and finals will all be shot on the beach on Sunday

Fingers crossed

9 bottles of water and several wee's later!! (Qualifying day!)
Date: 03/06/2009 19:57

Today started off pretty warm again, but it was also more breezy than it has been all week. I wasnt very happy with the way I shot, but the wind was tricky. Not enough to really push me off the gold, but the arrows were drifting. Not only that, it would occasionally change direction just to add to the mix!

I felt my 50m went fairly well considering a very short shower and the breeze - 341. My short metric got me back in the mix - 1376 amazingly made me 5th!! Jamie absolutely stormed it and shot 1409 - im impressed.

Day off tomorrow! Then h2hs on Friday
