UK Sport Lottery Funding
Date: 18/11/2008 12:14

welcome to the wonderfull world of Uk Sport Lottery funding. Let me get one thing straight, with out lottery funding our sport at a world class level would be dead. With out it we would have next to no chance of reaching a high enough level to pick up world medals. Im stuck waiting to find out about my funding so ive gone back to saving lives at the Ipswich hospital until i find out if im keeping my funding. If i get my funding ill go straight back to full time training. It does mean ill be broke again for another 4 years but its the only way if you really want to win. Ill let you know as soon as i find out, fingers crossed!

Draw length lengthens
Date: 18/11/2008 11:02

i had another few coaching days with Peter Suk last week and again by the end of it my draw length was even longer. All we have done is lower my drawing arms shoulder to make it level with the bow arm shoulder, which it should be. But this has put about an extra 15mm on my draw. It all feels more stable and easyer to draw so i guess ill just be selling off all my old arrows and begging Easton for some new stiffer ones! Shooting 50lbs im already on 410 x10s so i guess ill be trying some 380s, mind you, even though my 410s only have about 3mm of arrow in front of the button, they are shooting and scoring great so the 380s wil have a tuff act to follow. Ill keep you posted!

best Hoyt colours?
Date: 17/11/2008 12:07

shown here is a very rare thing. To have a baby blue or pink hoyt bow is very uncommon. To have them both in one room is unheard of! Neither of there colours sold very much, if at all, in the shops, who knows why! I think they look great. So are they the best or the worst colours ever? Let me know at whoreallygivesadam@clickersarchery.co.uk ;-)

Shooting Compound
Date: 12/11/2008 07:11

last night was my clubs monthly compound portsmouth postal shoot. I sadly was not able to join in as i had some training that i had to do with my recurve i needed to do. But i could not resist having a few shots again. Its now been 7 years since i retired from compound shooting. Most people i meet dont even know i shot compound let alone that i was ranked 2nd in the world. One day i will return!

High speed camera
Date: 11/11/2008 19:44

today ive been training using a casio high speed camera and i must say its been really usefull. Watching myself and others shoot at about 300 frames per second was really good at seeing what back tension and release hand were doing when i shot. The other highest speed on it was 1200 frames per second. This makes it all look really slow. You can really see the arrow slowly leave the bow. This setting was great for checking out arrow flight. In fact ive been so impressed with it all ive dissided im going to buy my own! There is already some high speed film of me shooting on youtube and as soon as i get my own ill be adding some more!

Archery GB's head coach Peter Suk is keeping out of the wind behind his wall of Damage Cubes, im not sure this is what they are really designed for!

Archery GB's new coaching programme starts
Date: 10/11/2008 11:28

After things not going great in china this summer it was dissided the way we get our coaching in the UK needed a few changes. Over the last few years the way we did things was to get the whole team together at lilleshall and spend a week training together. Looking back the problem with this is that we never get to spend enough time getting coaching with Peter. We would always start something and then hav leave it as it was some one elses turn. So what we are doing this year is to go to lilleshall just 2 at a time. This way we get at least 4 hours one2one coaching each day and spend the rest of the day doing tasks. Last thursday was my first day of this new programme and i must say it worked well. Peter and myself have drawn up a list of 3 points we feel we need to address this indoor season to move my scores on. This summer ive only been shooting just over 1300 for a gents fita and its just not enough when competing on a world stage. I really need to turn my 1313 personal best in to about the 1340 level if i want to have a chance of really competing at world cups this summer. All great things start with a plan and thats what we have so fingers crossed!
