Another really hot day on the field. I got through 2 and 1/2 litres of water in the 3 hour session. Didnt shoot a massive amount of arrows, paced it well in the heat.
Jamie Van Natta (USA) borrowed my 2nd bow today as hers didnt arrive from the airport (I think she had about 2 or 3 connections). Lets hope it arrives in time for tomorrow.
Shooting was feeling nice today, just got to keep the liquids up. There wasnt much wind, so I hope that continues tomorrow! Qualification round tomorrow for Recurve men and compound women.

We arrived yesterday here in Turkey. We have been on the practice field today and it has been SO hot! Mid 30s! Hopefully it wont be so hot over the next few days!
The Gold Cup, Newark
Date: 01/06/2009 15:20
After being at home for a week and a half, it was about time to go on another international!
Nichola Simpson, Andrea Gales, Lucy Holderness and I flew out on the Wednesday. We spent Thursday in New York City which was pretty cool. On the Friday we practiced - it was pretty humid!
The Saturday was the fita round. At the longest distance there was a little bit of drift. I was fairly happy with my 344 70m and 353 60m which was a 60m and long metric PB. I had a rubbish 50m, but 30m went well- I just had one out by a couple cm to equal my current joint PB of 359. That gave me 1394, ranking me 3rd. Jamie Van Natta had shot well- 1410. Her current world record is 1412 which she was still on to beat when we started 30m.
On the Sunday we shot h2hs. I had a bye in the 1st round, my 2nd round was comfortable 112-108. In the 3rd round I got Diane Johnson who had beaten me in Arizona. I beat her 115-106. Unfortunately I then came up against Nichola. It was a close match, and I just managed to win 112-111. In the gold final I got Jamie Van Natta. We started off beating the men wth 30-30. Jamie continued 60-58. But in the 3rd end she dropped a 7. This let me back in. In the last end it was breezy. I managed 8, 10, 10 - it was enough! I won 115-114 :-)
Croatia - 2nd World Cup
Date: 01/06/2009 14:56
On the 3rd May we flew out to Croatia. Compound funding being cut this year meant that we had missed the first leg in Dominican, but Liam, Nichola and myself were sent to Croatia. Chris White turned it down. We were told we had to make the top 6 to go to any further trips. I felt fairly confident as I had finished 5th at the same tournament last year.
We shot a Fita on the 6th. The weather was perfect and the scores were high! I didnt feel I shot very well, it wasnt flowing. I ended with 1383, ranking me 12th. Nichola Simpson had shot well - and was ranked 6th.
The head to heads went fairly well. I had a good round initially against the Austrian Goebel. In the 2nd round I met Gladys Willems as I always do! I think its the 3rd time this year!! I beat her 112-111. In the 3rd round I was against Loginova (Russia), I beat her 116-114. In the semi final I was against Weihe (Germany) who had just beaten Jamie Van Natta. I beat her 115-113 to make the Gold match! I had to wait 2 days for the gold match. The Friday was a team day and we didnt have a team this year (we won gold last year).
Finally Saturday came. It was a tense match between Ivana Buden (Croatia) and myself. I started well, making a small lead. On the last end, my 1st arrow was an 8. It wasnt a bad shot, it was just aiming there! I then shot a 9, which meant after 11 arrows, Ivana and I were tied. She shot first - an 8. I shot my last arrow - right in the X! It felt good the split second it broke. Cant believe it, a world cup individual gold!!! AWESOME! Im the first Brit to have won an individual gold world cup medal.
1st World Championships selection shoot
Date: 01/06/2009 14:40
On the 25th and 26th April we shot the 1st half of the selection shoot. It was a horrible weekend for weather. It started off very wet and continued to be pretty windy! I shot 1323 for the fita which was the best ladies score. 11 ladies had qualfied for the event, but only 8 competed for the places. The wind continued on the Sunday and i shot 662, which was 2nd best behind Nichola's 667. After this we shot a round robin. I won 5 matches and lost 2. Overall Nichola is leading and Im about 12 points behind. The 2nd weekend of selection is in June
Clophill Fita 4 - Day 2
Date: 01/06/2009 14:36
A better day for weather today. I shot a further 2 scores for the England team - 678 and 680 but only 1 can be used from one day. I feel a little disappointed - I felt I could have shot better!
Clophill Fita 4
Date: 01/06/2009 14:22
I shot at my old club Clophill on 18th April. It was a bit breezy but I picked up my first Commonwealth Games qualifier for a 720 round of 673. The club is fantastic - the club house has a kitchen, and chill was served today!! :-)
Arizona Cup
Date: 01/06/2009 14:17
On the 5th April, the England team flew out to Arizona. It was a very hot windy dessert! We had a few pratice days, and were getting used to the conditions.
On the day of the fita, the weather was actually better than expected. I shot a 344 for 70m and 349 for 60m which i was pretty happy with. The next day we shot the short metric but on this day it was a little more windy again. I shot 340 and 352 (i think the best mens 30m on the field was 355!). I was pretty happy with my 1385, and I was ranked in 3rd place just behind 2nd place on 10s! Jamie Van Natta won the qualifying.
In the H2Hs I got through the 1st round comfortably but got knocked out in the 2nd round by Diane Johnson of the USA (coached by Jamie Van Natta).
Nichola Simpson went on to take Bronze and Liam got Silver.
Nichola, Rikki Bingham and myself also represented England in the team round. We ended up in the final against 'Team Xtreme' which included Erika Anear (Australia), Britney Lorennti (USA, individual winner) and Andrea Gales (England). It was a very close match, but a 58 end finish by us ensured we took the Gold!
1402 (indoors)
Date: 22/03/2009 20:10
Ive been on EAF squad this weekend. We shoot in a hanger at RAF Brize Norton. A few of us shot a fita on Saturday, my first one of this year, and im pretty happy with my first 1400.
We also used a balance plate this weekend. Its one usually used by golf etc - a very expensive piece of kit at about £6-7,000. Sadly, i dont think it was sensitive enough for archery. We all came up pretty much dead still - its quite different from the weight transference of a golf swing! Another good squad though, I enjoyed it.
The Outdoor Season is finally here!!!
Date: 16/03/2009 22:26
Oh yes, I have been outside shooting since last Wednesday! How good has the weather been?! On Sunday I was out there in a tshirt - no thermals! Cant wait for the season to begin.
My next tournament is the Arizona Cup - over easter weekend. Cant wait!
