Nicky Hunt

2nd World Cup - Croatia
Date: 20/04/2008 18:56

Lots of arrows shot in the last week and I feel Ive found my form!

In the qualification round (FITA 720) I started slowly wth 331 but put in a good 2nd half of 345! I qualified 7th out of 62 (the largest field of the world cup has seen so far). Our GB team were ranked 2nd, and with 14 teams present this gave us a bye for the first round.

Individual head to head day started tight with my match being the highest on the field but tying at 114-114. We shot a one arrow shoot off and I put in an X to her 8 which put me through.

In the 2nd round I came up against an Australian and I shot a very nice 117. This put me against former world champion from France Fabre. We had a close match but I lead all the way taking me into the last 8 (113-108). I came up against the former world record holder Bouillot (France). The wind picked up and we boh shoot a wide red with the first arrows. It was a close match and I put in a 10, 10, 9 to finish but lost 109-110. This left me as the highest losing archer, and in 5th place.

In the team competition we shot a strong round against India (222-210) and then went against Russian Fed. With 3 strong archers, they are a very good team. With our 2nd end we pulled out a 59 end and they never caught back up (226-219). This put us in th Gold medal match against France.

We shot the Gold medal match in the habour of Porec and it was very windy. We kept it strong and managed a 209-205, winning Gold!!

Overall a great trip. 3 women compounds in the top 5 and team gold!

1st World Cup - Dominican Rep
Date: 20/04/2008 18:34

The first world cup this year was the first week of April. After a very busy indoor season, there were only 3 weeks between the Indoor Europeans and the 1st outdoor world cup - with about 1 hour of light after work each night to get some outdoor shooting done.

The weather in the Carribean was windy and having massive down pours! Typical - the week we were there! Overall, I didnt shoot particularly well and unfortunately got knocked out first round in the individual competition.

In the team round we did much better, being the first seed we were up against Dominican Rep in the first round and won. We then went on to face Germany, but lost by a narrow margin. That put us in the Bronze medal match. We shot the finals in the Forge which was awesome, but windy! We ended tying the match and had a shoot off!

Putting in a 9,10,10 we thought we could seal it but the Germans equalled us. On the next shoot off we put in 9,9,9, but the Germans put in 10,8,10 clinching the match!

A dissapointing end to the trip but a lot to learn from it again. 5 nights in my own bed and then off to Croatia for the 2nd stage of the World Cup!

Outdoor Selection Shoot
Date: 01/04/2008 01:56

The outdoor selection shoot on 22/23rd March (yes, Easter weekend - us archers dont have time for family or relaxation ;-) , was shot at RAF Cosford, indoors - which was great seeing as it was snowing outside!!

I had a fairly good weekend, shooting a 687 and 683 (best indoors on squad was 691) so a little down. As there was only 3 female compounds qualified, we shot against each other 5 times on the sunday!!!

Overall, I won, beating Nicky Simpson by 42 points, and Andrea Gales by 100 points. All 3 of us will make the team for the Outdoor Euros in France in May. It should be a good team and I am looking forward to it!

Outdoors
Date: 16/03/2008 17:40

The outdoor season is finally here! Now getting a short time to shoot after work just before it gets dark.

Now preparing for the 1st world cup - in Dominican Rep in 2 weeks time! Looking forward to it. The outdoor season is my favourite and Im working hard, so should be some nice big scores coming my way! :-)

European Championships
Date: 11/03/2008 18:42

Ive just got back from the European Championships in Italy. I had quite a good week. I decided to shoot my New Hoyt Ultra Elite and put in a 577 qualifying round for the Fita 18m. This ranked me 5th and the GB team 2nd.

In the head to heads I did well, and in the 3rd round I came up against Lucy Holderness who I beat by 1 point! This put me in the semi's and I was up against Longo (italian). We tied the match but in the single arrow shoot off i was beaten by a couple of mm to the 10!

This put me in the Bronze medal match which I took an early lead ad finished strongly with a 30 end to win European Bronze!

The team round also went well. Unfortunately Italy beat us in the Semis but we beat the Dutch to take team Bronze!

Overall, an awesome week!

Check out the BBC website, GNAS website and even the Mail on Sunday and Express from Sunday (9/3/08) - hope you've got a magnifying glass for the papers!! LOL

New Ultra Elite 2
Date: 11/02/2008 20:14

My new Ultra Elite with XT3000 limbs has arrived today. I have got it all sorted ready to shoot and will let you know how it goes!

Ive not compared the 3000 limbs before, the Americans say I slower but more forgiving bow, we shall see!

Nimes 2008
Date: 11/02/2008 20:07

Hey, I went to Nimes on 25-28th January. It was an awesome trip with loads of Brits there. I shot pretty well, putting in a 579 Fita 18 which ranked me 2nd.

I went through the 1st and 2nd rounds, but then met Gladys Willems in the 3rd round. She's won the tournament a couple of times and after a perfect 30-30 start, Gladys pulled away by a couple of points. That left me in 5th place overall - not a bad weekend really.

Check out The Bow magazine for all the results and some pics

European Indoor Selection Shoot
Date: 14/01/2008 18:05

Hey,
Yesterday was the European Indoor selection shoot held at Lilleshall. There were 8 lady compounds qualified, with only 3 spaces available.

The qualification round was a FITA 18m. I shot 571 which placed me 2nd behind the leader with 574.

We then went into the h2h stages where I continued to shoot well. I won every h2h with my best score being 118.

I won the tournament. Nichola Simpson was 2nd and Lucy Holderness 3rd - we are the team for the European Championships in Italy in March. Will let you know how we get on!

New Ultra Elite
Date: 07/01/2008 18:05

My new Ultra Elite has arrived! Ive got it in Solid blue. Went for the Cam and 1/2 plus and it has a nice hard wall. The grip is slim compared to my 2005 model and feels nice. Will let you know how it gets on!

GB Squad
Date: 07/01/2008 17:54

21-23 Dec was GB Squad. Its now a mixture of seniors and juniors. We shot in the 90m hall at Lilleshall all weekend. On the Saturday we scored 2 720 rounds. This is the first time i have shot 70m since Sept. First round was 690 and 2nd round 684.

We then went into head-to-heads. My first round was against Rosie which I won. I was then against James Forbes who I just took out with a 59 end. The semi was against Mark Franklin who I lost against by 1 point! The bronze match was against Matt Arnold who I beat. Not bad for a girl!!

On the Sunday we shot team rounds. Myself, Nicky Simpson and Andrea Gales shot together which was great as we are the team going to the Europeans this year.

All in all, a very good squad!
