face 2 face
Date: 26/11/2008 09:04

it is only a week until we head off to face 2 face. It is now time to really up the shooting in preparation. Having not had the best start to the indoor season i'm not in the place i want to be yet. However normally with big competitions my shooting will improve leading up to the shoot. Therefore i am feeling positive.

i have just tried shooting the new gmx riser and new limbs. The biggest difference i found from my current nexus riser was the grip. The new grip has a very curved edge on the hand side which forces you to have a deeper hand position otherwise the riser will slip in the hand. For a first try with this riser it felt very positive. More testing to follow.

British Euronations

Today I found out that I have also been picked to shoot for the England team at the British champs next month. Good news!

I was picked to shoot for the Euronations Recurve team which was a great personal achievement.
The trip was very eventful and included some of the worse wind and rain I've ever shot in. However this did coincide with some of by best shooting. The outcome was great coming 2nd overall in the individual recurve division. We also shot well as a team and took the gold medal for the recurve team.
All in all personally a good trip.

Its now time for outdoors
Date: 09/03/2008 16:01

I always new that shooting outside at 70m with a recurve was going to be very different to indoors and I was right. It is now week 6 of recurve archery and the learning curve is very steep.
I have set up my outdoor arrows, which are Easton X10 450 arrows. They are nearly tuned but are just a little stiff. This is ok, as I will be increasing my draw weight of the next few weeks. I have found the my technique needed a bit of adjustment for outdoor but is probably something I will also use indoors now to. I will now be looking at which competitions I will do now and I wonder how I will get on. The real challenge begins now it think.

Vegas wk 4 of recurve archery
Date: 09/03/2008 15:55

The day after the Nationals I flew out to Vegas in a tired condition but feeling good about my shooting at the nationals.
We started the competition on the Friday and I scored 280 out of 300 which I felt was a good start. After day 1 I was in 5th place in the first division. Day 2 did not go so well and I shot 273 which was very disappointing as I kept put reds in on the left. I then went and sorted myself out on the practise target and found my self only dropping one place down to 6th after the 2nd day.
The final day came and I was feeling much stronger and went and shot my best arrows of the trip scoring 288 which I was very happy with. I new this score would help my position and after a long wait I found out I came 3rd overall in the first division. This was great news and I was very happy with how the whole trip went. I recommend Vegas to everyone as it is a true great shoot for anyone.

Indoor Recurve national
Date: 09/03/2008 15:47

On the 16th Feb I went to the national Recurve indoor champs. It was now the end of wk 3 of being a recurve archer.
I qualified for the h2hs with a score of 560 which was ok. Was nothing special but done the job. This ranked me in 12th place which was in the top half.
I then went on to come 5th overall with passes of 111, 118, 115 but lost on a 2nd one arrow shoot off. I feel that I shot some of my best arrows in the h2h under pressure and was pleased with the end result.

Well 2day is day 2 of being a recurve archer. I now have my new bow (Hoyt Nexus cx900) It feels very different to my old bow in a good way. The limbs are the biggest change. They are very smooth.
I am now working on my technique and getting my strength up. The key thing I am working on is making sure I get the shot onto my back.
The big plan at the moment is getting ready for the national champs in 2 weeks. There’s nothing like setting big goals.

Well last weekend was Nimes. It truly is a great shoot. Almost all the top archers were there.
I went there shooting my compound. It was going well before the competition but unfortunately it did not payoff on the day. Even though I did not shoot well I found the whole a good experience.
I would recommend to all.

Clacton Shoot Recurve style
Date: 13/01/2008 21:11

I decided to see what I could do with the recurve at the Clacton Portmouth archery shoot on the 13/1/08.
Well after a shaky start I shot a 572 which was ok but was not going to finish with that. So I decided to shoot again in the next round. This time i was on it and shot 585 which I was very pleased with manly as i shot consistently during the round.
I finished 1st in both sessions and won overall which was my first recurve win.
